A Hydrogen Fuel Cell is an electrochemical cell that converts the chemical energy of a fuel i.e., Hydrogen and an Oxidizing agent i.e., Oxygen into Electricity & Water through a pair of redox reaction.
How Hydrogen Fuel Cell Generates Electricity?
Hydrogen is fed to the Nickel Mesh anode, and Oxygen is fed to the Nickel Mesh cathode. Then a catalyst at the anode separates hydrogen molecules into protons and electrons, which take different paths to the Nickel cathode. The electrons then go through an external circuit, creating a flow of electricity.
What are the By-Products?
In Hydrogen Fuel Cell Cars, The Hydrogen is filled externally, and Oxygen is taken from the surface atmosphere and this Oxidizing Agent i.e., Oxygen & Reducing Agent i.e., is fed to the Nickel Mesh Electrodes producing Electricity & Water.
